Gaia Sky is a free and open-source astronomy visualization program that allows you to create a 3D simulation of the universe on your Mac. You can explore billions of celestial bodies in real-time, ranging from distant galaxies to asteroids near the Milky Way, all from your desktop. To use the program effectively, you need to download datasets from the menu, as these are essential for creating the universe on your Mac. The basic dataset, which is around 100 MB, includes the solar system with planets, moons, orbits, constellations, and other objects. Additional datasets can be downloaded to expand your simulation, such as high-resolution textures for planets, moons, and stars, or the ability to visit distant stars and galaxies. Although Gaia Sky is not a video game, it can be controlled with a video game controller or through keyboard and mouse. You can freely move around the universe, zoom in and out, and select different reference points for exploration. The app provides a faithful and real-time representation of space, allowing you to experience the vastness and beauty of the universe from the comfort of your home.
